Behind the tall boundary walls of villas in Abqaiq, owners want a pool they can use freely: out of sight, shaded in part, with a stepped rock waterfall in one corner filling the yard with the sound of water. That is what Aemar Al-Maryam General Contracting builds for swimming pool construction in Abqaiq: reinforced-concrete pools for private villas, with the walls poured at dawn before the heat builds, water-tested before waterproofing, finished in mosaic, and set beside rock waterfalls, pergolas and shaded seating. In Abqaiq the first figures are SAR 12,900 for a plunge-size basin that cools a villa yard, SAR 19,400 for the six-by-three family basin, and SAR 7,400 for a medium rock cascade in its corner; we confirm each once we have stood in the yard, and add the crew’s drive from Dammam. Phone and WhatsApp: 0547879578.
Abqaiq sits inland along the road to Dhahran, surrounded by sand, with hot, dry summers and winds that carry dust. Those conditions are not the conditions of a coastal town. The first threat to your pool here is not salty water rising from below; it is the heat at the time of pouring, the dust in the water, and fast evaporation. So this guide begins with planning the pool inside a walled villa yard, then how the walls are poured in the heat, then the tests, waterproofing, tiling and safety, and finally rock waterfalls, prices and a worked example for a pool with a waterfall.
Villa pools in Abqaiq at a glance
- Planning: a pool kept clear of the boundary-wall footing, a pergola or shade over the seating and part of the water, and a ventilated plant room close by.
- Pouring in the heat: pool walls poured at dawn, concrete no warmer than 35 °C when placed, steady vibration, and at least seven days of curing.
- Before finishing: a water-tightness test of the shell and a pressure test of the pipes before backfill.
- Rock waterfalls: natural rocks stepped over a waterproofed basin with a closed-loop pump, from SAR 7,400 for a medium ground waterfall.
- Starting prices: SAR 12,900 for a small pool, 19,400 for 3×6 m and 29,500 for about 4×9 m.
- For an estimate: send photos and measurements of the yard on WhatsApp 0547879578.
Private villa pools in Abqaiq: planning a pool behind a tall wall
Villa pools in Abqaiq are usually built in yards enclosed by tall walls. That gives privacy, but it also forces some decisions before digging begins:
■ Distance from the wall
A tall boundary wall has a deeper, wider footing, and digging right against it can weaken it. We keep the pool the distance the designer sets from the footing, and protect it during excavation.
■ Shade and sun
The sun in Abqaiq is strong for most of the year. A concrete pergola or a shade structure over the seating and part of the water makes the pool usable for more of the day.
■ Equipment access
A yard closed by a tall wall may not admit an excavator or a concrete pump. We check the gate width and the hose route before fixing a pour date.
Privacy does not make a pool child-safe on its own. The outer wall keeps strangers out, but children reach the water from inside the house. The safety section explains what to do about it.
Pool construction company in Abqaiq: what we build and what the supplier provides
A pool construction company in Abqaiq should tell you from the start what its own crews build. Ours handle excavation and removal of spoil, the reinforced-concrete shell, waterproofing, mosaic, tiles and coping, the cast-in and buried pipework with pressure tests, the plant room, the electrical supply and earthing, and the built waterfalls, pergolas and seating. The removable machinery, meaning circulation pumps, filter tanks, salt cells, heat pumps, water coolers and low-voltage lamps, is selected and sold by a pool-equipment dealer; once you settle on a model, our team fixes it in place and runs it up alongside the dealer. We come to Abqaiq from Dammam with a complete crew and sequence the stages to cut down on separate trips. We do not offer routine cleaning or monthly maintenance contracts.
Pool sizes and depths in Abqaiq
Choosing a size starts with how the pool will be used. A family pool for children needs a wider shallow area; a pool for swimming needs length; a pool for relaxing and hosting needs an attractive surface and sitting ledges more than depth. The most requested sizes:
| Size | Typical depth | Suits | Starting from |
|---|---|---|---|
| Roughly four and a half by two and a half | Around a metre | Small yard, relaxing and cooling off | SAR 12,900 |
| Six by three | Sloping to 1.4 m | A small family | SAR 19,400 |
| Roughly nine by four | Sloping to 1.8 m | Family and light swimming | SAR 29,500 |
| Roughly ten and a half by five and a half | Sloping to 2 m | Large yard and swimming | SAR 38,800 |
A small pool in an Abqaiq villa yard
A plunge-size basin, roughly four and a half metres long, suits a limited yard and is often enough for cooling off in summer and sitting in the water in the evening. It needs to stay clear of the wall footing, the water tank and the septic tank, with a route in for digging and pouring.
Pool types and systems in Abqaiq
A reinforced-concrete pool is what we build, because it takes the shape you want and, designed properly, resists water and soil pressure. A block pool is weaker against those loads, so we do not build one, and a fibreglass pool is a factory shell for which we only handle excavation, the base and the surrounding tiles. As for the system, there are two: skimmer, where the water sits below the coping and the surface is drawn through wall openings, the more economical choice and the right one for most villas; and overflow, where the water spills into a channel and on to a balance tank, from SAR 60,000. In dusty Abqaiq, skimmer baskets help catch debris before it reaches the filter. The usual guidance is one skimmer for roughly every 74 m² of water surface, placed on the side the wind blows dust towards.
Pouring pool walls at dawn in Abqaiq
Pouring the pool walls in Abqaiq is the stage where the weather decides the quality of the concrete. The walls are relatively thin and tall, the steel is dense, and the concrete has to fill every gap between formwork and bars without drying out too soon. So in summer we pour pool walls at first light and finish before the sun gets strong.

Why dawn?
Hot-weather concreting rules call for concrete no warmer than 35 °C when placed, and forbid adding water on site to loosen a mix that has started to stiffen. On a summer afternoon in Abqaiq that is hard to achieve. At dawn the steel and formwork are still relatively cool, the concrete arrives cooler, and there is time to vibrate and finish before the heat.
Vibration and the floor-to-wall joint
Walls are poured in layers, and the vibrator goes into each layer until the air bubbles rise and it knits with the layer beneath, without vibrating so long that the mix separates. Where the floor meets the wall, the point where one pour ends and another begins, we fix a waterstop strip before pouring, because that line is the most common leak path in pools.
At least seven days of curing
Once the formwork is struck we keep the walls wet and covered for at least seven days. Rapid drying in Abqaiq’s dry air causes surface cracks that weaken the face that will carry the waterproofing and tiles. Hot-weather pouring and truck checks are covered in Concrete Pouring in Abqaiq.
A tip for villa owners
Ask about the pour time the day before. A dawn pour means the pump and the mixer truck arrive early. Telling the neighbours and having the gate open on time can save the hour that separates a pour in the cool from a pour in the heat.
Building a concrete pool in Abqaiq, step by step
- 1Inspection and planning
Pool position, shade, seating and waterfall, and distances from the wall and tanks. - 2Drawing and permit
An engineering office designs the shell and checks the permit route on Balady. - 3Excavation
By machine where it can get in, by hand in tight parts, with the wall footing protected. - 4Blinding, steel and sleeves
Blinding concrete, steel on chairs, and sleeves for drains, inlets and lights fixed in place. - 5Floor pour
Then a waterstop where the wall begins. - 6Wall pour at dawn
By pump and vibrator, followed by curing. - 7Water-tightness test
Filling the shell and measuring the loss. - 8Pipework and plant room
Pipes pressure-tested before backfill. - 9Waterproofing and tiling
Then coping, deck and the waterfall. - 10Commissioning and handover
Equipment with the supplier, a gradual fill, and a walk-through on care.
Budget a month to two for a villa basin of ordinary size, knowing that part of it is waiting we will not cut: a damp week for the concrete, nearly a week of the shell standing full while we log it, and about three weeks for the tiles before water goes in.
Soil and groundwater in Abqaiq: what the inspection reveals
In the coastal cities of the Eastern Province groundwater is close and salty in many places, but Abqaiq is inland, and we do not assume what holds in Dammam holds here. So we settle the soil type and water level on each site at the inspection, with a trial pit where needed, before final pricing:
- ✓If the soil is dry sand: we protect the sides of the excavation from collapse, and wet and compact the formation before blinding.
- ✓If water or damp appears: we lower the water while digging, tank the walls on the outside, and fit a relief valve in the floor as designed.
- ✓If hard layers appear: rock excavation is priced at inspection.
- ✓In every case: the cement and concrete specification is set by the designer from what the site shows.
Water-tightness testing and waterproofing a pool in Abqaiq
After curing we fill the bare shell, let it saturate for three days, then measure the loss over 72 hours. Under the reference standard for testing water-retaining concrete structures, the loss should not exceed 0.05 per cent of the volume per day. In Abqaiq we measure evaporation in a container beside the pool and deduct it, because dry air can push evaporation high enough to look like a leak.
Waterproofing the pool from inside in Abqaiq
After it passes, the inner face is cleaned and given two crosswise coats of a supple cement-based membrane meant to stay submerged, with mesh worked into every angle and sleeve; where the shell needs it, a PVC liner or an epoxy finish is used instead. If water or damp showed up in the excavation, we add bituminous tanking on the outside of the walls before backfill. For the villa’s roof, read Roof Waterproofing and Insulation in Abqaiq.
Pool tiling in Abqaiq: mosaic, coping and a deck that will not burn your feet
- ✓Mosaic or pool ceramic tiles: low absorption, fixed with an immersion-rated adhesive in a full bed with no voids.
- ✓Grout after at least three days: with epoxy grout where it is needed.
- ✓Pale coping stone: stays cooler in the sun and is slip-resistant.
- ✓A pale deck with falls: or pale interlock paving, as in Interlock Paving in Abqaiq.
- ✓A gradual fill: about three weeks after the last grout, at no more than about 75 cm a day.
Pipework, plant room and lighting in Abqaiq
Pool pipework includes two main drains in the floor at least about 0.9 m apart for each pump, with anti-entrapment covers, return inlets in the walls, skimmers, and the lines to the plant room, all pressure-tested before backfill. We build the plant room close to the pool, ventilated, with a drained floor, and placed so the pump’s noise does not carry to the bedrooms. Underwater lamps are fed at 12 volts from a transformer kept back from the water, every metal fitting is tied into the bonding, and a breaker set to trip at 30 milliamps of leakage guards the line. Outdoor electrics are covered in Electrician in Abqaiq, and plumbing in Plumber in Abqaiq.
Pool safety in Abqaiq: a tall wall is not enough
The tall wall round a villa protects the pool from outside, but the most dangerous route to the water is a child coming from inside the house. That is why international home-pool safety guidance recommends:
- ✓An inner barrier round the pool: at least about 1.2 m high, with gaps narrower than 10 cm.
- ✓A self-closing, self-latching gate: opening outward, away from the pool.
- ✓If the house wall forms part of the barrier: an alarm on the doors that open to the pool, or a pool safety cover.
- ✓Depth markings and safe steps: with a slip-resistant surface round the pool.
- ✓Constant supervision: no barrier or cover replaces an adult watching.
Stepped rock waterfalls in Abqaiq
A stepped rock waterfall at the corner of the pool turns a walled yard into a place with the sound and movement of water, and masks the noise of the street. It is a real structure, not just stacked rocks: a waterproofed basin, hidden pipes, a pump, and carefully set rocks that carry the water down in steps until it falls into the pool.

How we build a rock waterfall
- 1Foundation
A concrete base that carries the weight of the rocks without pressing on the pool wall. - 2Basin and waterproofing
A basin or channel behind the rocks, fully waterproofed so water does not escape into the soil or the boundary wall. - 3Pipes and pump
A hidden delivery pipe to the top of the first step, and a small pump returning water from the pool or a separate basin. - 4Setting the rocks
One rock at a time, with a lip on each step to guide the water, and a flow test before final fixing. - 5Lighting and planting
Low-voltage underwater lights, and pockets between the rocks for heat-tolerant plants.
Fountains in Abqaiq: the difference between a waterfall and a fountain
A waterfall flows over a lip, a rock or a wall; a fountain sprays water upward or bubbles it up from a basin. Both run on a small pump in a closed loop, and household units draw anything from a few dozen watts to roughly 150 watts.
| Type | Starting from |
|---|---|
| Stacked natural rock cascade, medium | SAR 7,400 |
| Large cascade feeding a lit pond | SAR 13,900 |
| Modern corner waterfall (medium) | SAR 5,500 |
| Small wall waterfall about 1×1 m | SAR 3,700 |
| Wall cascade about two metres wide | SAR 6,450 |
| Garden fountain, small or medium | SAR 3,200 |
| Lamp set under the falling water | SAR 460 |
In Abqaiq’s dry air a waterfall loses water faster than a still pool, so watch the level in summer, and clear sand from the pump strainer so it never runs dry.
The pergola and seating beside an Abqaiq pool
In Abqaiq a concrete pergola over the poolside seating is more than decoration; it is what makes the water usable in the late afternoon through the hot months. We build it as structure, with its own footings, columns and beams, rather than a light frame screwed to the tiles:
- ✓Separate foundations: the columns never bear on the pool wall or coping; they sit on their own pads on compacted ground.
- ✓Height and spacing that work: the roof is high enough to let air move, and the columns stand far enough back from the edge to walk and sit.
- ✓Shade where it counts: we orient it so the afternoon shadow falls on the seating and the shallow end where children play.
- ✓Wiring done properly: any lights or fans run in conduit, with outlets outside the two-metre zone round the water and on a leakage breaker.
- ✓A sun-proof finish: render and a pale exterior paint that absorbs less heat, or stone cladding to match the boundary wall.
Built seating beside the water is block or concrete, clad in stone or tile, with a slight fall on top so splashes drain away. Pergolas and seating are priced at inspection by area, height and cladding.
Mistakes we see in Abqaiq villa pools
- ✓Walls poured at midday: concrete that stiffened before it was properly vibrated, leaving honeycombing behind the formwork.
- ✓A pool hard against the wall footing: cracks in the boundary wall after excavation, or years later from the pool’s damp.
- ✓An unventilated plant room: summer heat in a sealed room shortens pump life and spoils the chemicals.
- ✓Dark paving round the water: tiles that get too hot to cross barefoot.
- ✓A rock waterfall with no sealed basin: rocks stacked on soil leak into the ground, so the pool level falls every day and the owner suspects a leak in the pool.
- ✓Relying on the outer wall alone: with no inner barrier and no alarm on the house doors that open to the pool.
Does a pool need a permit in Abqaiq?
A concrete basin is a structural addition to the villa, so before excavation a licensed engineering office reviews it and, where a permit is due, files it on Balady as an addition to a permitted building; the villa’s own permit must be current, the platform usually turns requests round within ten days, and the fee is calculated online. For a new villa, the pool is best included in the original drawings. If the pool is part of a new annex or majlis, see Annex and Majlis Builder in Abqaiq.
Pool construction prices in Abqaiq
Our pool construction prices in Abqaiq are the same starting prices we publish in Dammam, with travel from Dammam added after the inspection. A pool price covers excavation in normal soil and removal of spoil, the reinforced shell, internal waterproofing, pool ceramic tiles, cast-in pipework with its pressure test, and plant-room preparation.

Square-metre rates for upgrades and refits in Abqaiq: tiling labour inside the basin SAR 92, glass mosaic supplied SAR 110, a supple immersion coating SAR 74 (or SAR 92 for a PVC liner, SAR 138 for epoxy), lifting old tiles SAR 14, and laying the surround with falls SAR 37 in labour.
Treat these as first figures; the written number follows the visit. Anything shown as “at inspection” we can ballpark from pictures and approximate measurements on 0547879578, and everything else we do is on our price list.
Worked example: a 3×6 m pool with a rock waterfall at an Abqaiq villa
An illustration for a 3×6 m skimmer pool with a graded depth, a medium natural-stone ground waterfall in the corner with its lighting, and a tiled deck 1 m wide on every side:
| Item | Calculation | Estimate |
|---|---|---|
| Six-by-three family basin | First figure | SAR 19,400 |
| Natural-stone ground waterfall (medium) | Starting price | SAR 7,400 |
| Underwater lighting for the waterfall | One set | SAR 460 |
| Deck tiling | (5×8) − (3×6) = 22 m² × 37 | SAR 814 |
| Estimated total | Before equipment, pergola and travel | SAR 28,074 |
The example leaves out the pump, filter and other equipment chosen with the supplier, the pergola, and travel from Dammam, which are all set at inspection.
What changes the cost in Abqaiq?
- ✓Access: a narrow gate or a yard the excavator cannot enter means more hand digging and a longer pump hose.
- ✓Soil: hard layers or water in the excavation add items priced at inspection.
- ✓Extras: the waterfall, pergola, built seating and lighting.
- ✓Equipment: the level of pump, sanitising and cooling, and a chiller in particular given the summer heat.
Pool renovation in Abqaiq
Pool renovation in Abqaiq mostly deals with the effects of heat and dust: eroded grout along the waterline, mosaic that has come loose after years of expansion and contraction, cracked coping, and a faded finish. We start by inspecting the pool (visits from SAR 140), then decide whether stripping the tiles at SAR 14 per m² and re-waterproofing and re-tiling is enough, or whether the shell has cracks that need deeper treatment.
- ✓The bucket test first: fill a bucket to pool level, set it on a step and compare after a day; a basin that sinks visibly lower than the bucket is losing water.
- ✓Cracks: surface cracks are treated before waterproofing; through cracks are for an engineer to judge. Building cracks in general are covered in Crack Repair in Abqaiq.
- ✓Renovate or rebuild: if the water-tightness test passes after repairs, renovation is the economical choice; if the shell is badly damaged, rebuilding is sounder.
- ✓Updating the house as well: see Renovation Contractor in Abqaiq.
Pool care in Abqaiq’s heat and dust
- ✓A cover: the most useful tool in Abqaiq; it cuts evaporation, keeps dust out and limits heat gain in summer.
- ✓Skimmers and filter: empty the skimmer baskets after every dust storm, and keep an eye on when the filter needs a backwash.
- ✓Chemistry: keep pH inside seven to seven point eight and free chlorine at one part per million or above, two with stabilised products.
- ✓Cooling the water: pool water can get very warm in summer, and a chiller is an option the supplier can size.
- ✓Salt chlorination: does not replace regular checks of pH and the filter.

Reasons Abqaiq villa owners build with Aemar Al-Maryam
Because we plan the pool around the wall, the shade and equipment access before digging, pour the walls at dawn and cure them properly, water-test the shell and pressure-test the pipes before finishing, and build the rock waterfall as a waterproofed structure, not decoration sitting on soil. Our first prices are public, and we say plainly which parts we build and which the dealer provides. Completed jobs are on our projects; the service summary is on Pools and Waterfalls.
