Core Drilling in Al-Ahsa – Tank, Pool & AC Duct Coring in Hofuf and Mubarraz

Core Drilling in Al-Ahsa

Core drilling in Al-Ahsa is a service we bring to Hofuf, Mubarraz and the farms and villages around them: using a diamond-bit core rig, we cut clean round holes through a house wall, the pump-room wall beside a rest-house pool, the side of a concrete farm water tank, or a wall just below the ceiling where a central-AC duct has to pass, without breaking out the concrete around the hole. Aemar Al-Maryam General Contracting works from Dammam, so for customers in Al-Ahsa we plan a single scheduled visit, load every bit size your list needs and finish the whole list in one trip. Small and AC holes start from SAR 90; all prices are estimates until we inspect and agree. Call or WhatsApp 0547879578.

Core requests in Al-Ahsa look different from those in the coastal cities. Here the rest house is part of family life, the farm has a tank, a pump and workers’ rooms, and a large house is often renovated in stages, gaining central air conditioning years after it was built with window units. That adds up to holes of every size in every kind of place: a new outlet for a tank, four pipes for a pool, a wide duct near a living-room ceiling. This page walks through each type, then explains how we price the work and how to prepare your list so that one visit is enough.

Core drilling in Al-Ahsa at a glance

  • What we drill: concrete and block house walls, slabs between floors, concrete tank walls, pool pump-room walls, and rest-house and farm boundary walls.
  • Most common jobs: split AC holes, central-AC duct holes, tank outlets, pool pipework, drain holes and extractor holes.
  • Starting prices: SAR 90 gets a small hole; the 5–6 inch band is SAR 140, eight inch SAR 230 and the 10–12 inch band SAR 320. Anything bigger is priced on site, and we confirm each number only after seeing the job.
  • How the visit works: Al-Ahsa is about 160 km from Dammam, so we come once, on a fixed date, with all the bits and kit your list calls for.
  • Before drilling: rebar and services scan, hole slope and direction confirmed, and the area protected from water and slurry.
  • To order: send photos of each spot, the diameters and your location on WhatsApp 0547879578.

Core drilling in Al-Ahsa: where homes, rest houses and farms need it

Core drilling in Al-Ahsa is requested on four kinds of site, and each has its own wall thickness, access and pipe type. Knowing which one you have helps you write the list, and it helps us choose the equipment before we leave Dammam.

■ Houses and villas

Split AC holes when window units are replaced, central-AC duct holes, kitchen and bathroom extractor holes, and drain pipes between the ground and first floor.

■ Rest houses

Pool pipe holes through the pump-room wall, services for outdoor toilets and outdoor kitchens, and lighting cables through boundary walls.

■ Farms

New outlets and inlets for concrete water tanks, irrigation pipes through boundary walls, and services for workers’ rooms and small stores.

■ Shops and offices

Extractor holes for small restaurants and bakeries, and AC and power holes when a new unit is fitted out.

What these sites share is that the hole is rarely a job on its own. It is the step before the plumber, the AC technician or the pool technician can do their work. That is why we ask you to check the diameter with whoever will fit the pipe or duct before you message us: a hole in the wrong size means a second hole and a second bill.

Core drilling in Hofuf and Mubarraz

We treat Hofuf and Mubarraz as one work area. Moving between them changes neither the price nor the equipment, and one day’s schedule can include a Hofuf house in the morning and a Mubarraz rest house after it. What does vary is the type and age of the building, and that is the first thing we ask about.

Core drilling in Hofuf

Core drilling in Hofuf centres on houses being refurbished from the inside: a living room switching from scattered units to a central ducted system, or a kitchen moved to another side of the house that now needs a new extractor outlet and a new drain. In houses that have stood for many years we start by checking the wall both by eye and with the scanner. We may find thick plaster over block, a concrete wall added later, or old electrical runs that nobody recorded. That check decides whether we drill wet or dry and which side we start from.

Core drilling in Mubarraz

Core drilling in Mubarraz brings many requests from houses and villas still before finishing: drain holes through slabs before the gypsum ceiling goes up, AC holes before painting, and power and data holes between rooms. This is the best moment for coring, because water and slurry cannot spoil finishes that are not yet installed, and a hole is easier to reposition. If your house is at this stage, ask your contractor or engineer for the full hole list from the drawings and send it to us in one go.

A tip that saves money

It does not matter if your holes are spread between a house in Hofuf, a rest house in Mubarraz and a farm in the villages. Put them all on one list with each location, and we will plan the day’s route so they are all done on a single visit.

Concrete coring in Al-Ahsa rest houses: pump rooms and pool pipework

Concrete coring in Al-Ahsa rest houses usually means opening paths for pipes between the pool and the pump-and-filter room. It comes up when a new pool is built at an existing rest house, when the pump room is moved, or when a new line is added for a fountain, lighting or heating. These holes go through reinforced concrete walls in most cases, so the rig is bolted to the wall on its stand; a hand-held machine is not the tool for them.

What we need to know before drilling pool holes

  • How many pipes, and the size of each: suction, return, cleaning and any extra lines, as set by the pool technician or the supplier’s layout.
  • The level of every hole: pool pipework relies on both gravity and pressure, and a hole that sits too high or too low complicates the run.
  • Is the pool full? drilling a wall between the pump room and a full pool means lowering the water below the hole first.
  • Where the power is: the pump-room panel and its cables, so we can keep water away from them and isolate them during the work if needed.

While drilling we collect the grey slurry with a wet vacuum as it forms and stop it reaching the pool water or the surrounding paving. Once the pool technician has run the pipes, the gap around each one is filled with a sealing material, because a wall that separates water from the pump room cannot tolerate even a small seep that slowly becomes a permanent damp patch.

⚠ Be careful with the pool shell itself

The wall of the pool basin holds back water and soil pressure; it is not just a partition. Small holes for suction and return lines are routine work. Large or closely spaced holes in the basin wall need an engineer’s opinion before we drill.

Water tank core holes in Al-Ahsa: a new outlet that stays watertight

A water tank core hole in Al-Ahsa is one of the most specific jobs in the governorate. Concrete tanks on farms and rest houses sometimes need a new outlet for an extra pump, an inlet for a filling line, or an old outlet moved to a better level. The quality of the hole is judged not only by how cleanly it is drilled but by whether the outside of the wall stays dry once the tank is full again.

How we drill a tank wall, step by step

  1. 1
Empty the tank or lower the water
The water is brought well below the hole, and the tank is emptied completely if the hole is near the floor.
  2. 2
    Fix the level and diameter
With the plumber or pump technician: pipe size, connector type, and height above the floor so the pump does not draw up sediment.
  3. 3
    Scan for rebar
Tank walls are usually reinforced with two meshes, so we locate the bars and pick a centre that passes between them where possible.
  4. 4
Drill from outside with a water-cooled diamond bit
The rig is anchored to the outer face and drills steadily until the core comes out whole, keeping the edge of the hole sound.
  5. 5
    Prepare the seal
A sealing ring that swells on contact with water goes around the pipe, then non-shrink grout fills the space between pipe and concrete.
  6. 6
    Inside finish and water test
The inner edge of the hole is treated with the right waterproofing layer; after curing, the tank is filled and the outer face is watched.

This approach, a water-swelling ring plus non-shrink grout, is what sealant manufacturers’ installation guides describe for passing a new pipe through an existing concrete wall. If the tank needs a full internal lining rather than a seal around one hole, we agree that as part of our waterproofing service, and you can read about tank repairs on our renovation contractor in Al-Ahsa page.

⚠ We never core a full tank

Water under pressure behind the wall bursts through in the last centimetre of drilling, ruining any chance of a good seal and flooding the area. Lowering the water is a condition for any tank hole, even one near the top.

AC core holes in Al-Ahsa

AC core holes in Al-Ahsa are the holes we are asked for most. The oasis summer is long, and many houses are moving from window units to split systems or to central air. The first rule is that the unit’s manual and the AC technician decide the diameter and slope; our job is to drill them precisely.

Split AC holes: diameter and slope

A well-known manufacturer’s installation manual asks for a 65 mm opening through the wall with a fall towards the exterior, so that condensate drains out rather than collecting inside the wall. We drill to the slope the technician asks for, choose a spot that avoids columns and beams, and break the core out on the outside carefully so the plaster edge does not spall.

Central-AC duct holes in Hofuf homes

When central air is added to an existing house, the duct has to cross interior walls close to the ceiling, and that makes the hole large: usually in the 8 inch or 10–12 inch class, depending on the round duct diameter the AC technician specifies. Drilling near the ceiling also means drilling near beams and lintels, so we trace the rebar and keep the hole clear of the beam. If there is genuinely no other position, the engineer decides.

AC Duct Coring in Al-Ahsa
A large-diameter core bit opening a path for a central-AC duct near the ceiling of a Hofuf house under refurbishment

A wide rectangular duct cannot be served by coring alone, because the bit is round. Either the technician switches to a round duct where it crosses the wall, or we open a rectangular hole with a diamond saw, which is covered on our concrete cutting in Al-Ahsa page.

Ask your AC technician before the visit

Have them write the diameter, position and height of every hole on a photo of the wall. Three minutes of their time saves you a misplaced hole that can only be fixed by closing it and drilling again.

Drilling holes in walls in Al-Ahsa: concrete, block or boundary wall

Drilling holes in walls in Al-Ahsa starts with a simple question: what is the wall made of? A reinforced concrete wall is cored wet on a stand-mounted rig. A block wall may be cored dry with dust extraction if water would harm an interior finish. A rest-house or farm boundary wall is usually block with concrete columns at intervals, so we place the hole between two columns.

Wall typeDrilling methodWhat we watch for
Reinforced concreteWet coring on a standRebar scan, water collection, distance from beams and columns
Plastered blockDry coring with extraction, or wet with little waterAnchoring the stand in hollow block, protecting the edge from breaking out
Rest-house or farm boundary wallWet or dry depending on materialColumn positions, lighting cables, height above ground
Pump-room or tank wallWet coring on a standWater level behind the wall, sealing after the pipe goes in

When the opening you need is a door, a window or a large rectangle, it is not a coring job but a saw-cutting job, and we may use the core rig only to drill the corners before cutting.

Slab and ceiling coring in Al-Ahsa

Slab coring in Al-Ahsa is needed for drain and water pipes between floors, for roof ventilation outlets and for the services of rooftop annexes. We usually drill from above with the rig upright, and place something underneath to catch the core and the water so they do not land on the floor below.

  • A 4 inch drain pipe: measures roughly 110 mm across the outside, which is why we core it at the 5 inch band: the extra gap takes the sealant.
  • Holes through the roof: every pipe that crosses the roof needs a sealing collar tied into the waterproofing layer, or it becomes a path for rainwater and damp.
  • Post-tensioned slabs: if the building has tensioned cables in its slabs, nothing is drilled until a radar scan has located them.
  • Large or closely spaced holes: these are shown to an engineer first, because they reduce the slab section.

A slab that needs a square opening for a stair or a lift is a cutting job, not a coring one. For a fuller explanation of slab holes between floors, see our core drilling in Dammam guide, which covers ceiling cases in detail.

Kitchen and bathroom core holes in Al-Ahsa

Kitchen and bathroom core holes in Al-Ahsa come with kitchen refits and with new toilets added to majlis rooms and annexes. Household bathroom fans are typically sold for 100 mm ducting, which a 4 inch band hole accommodates; a kitchen hood often runs on a 150 mm duct, which means a 6 inch class hole. The final reference is always the fan or hood manual.

■ Kitchen hood

A hole through the outside wall at the duct height, with a slight fall outwards and a cowl that keeps out rain and birds.

■ Bathroom fan

A small hole through the wall or slab depending on the route. A bathroom fan is never used to exhaust a kitchen.

■ Basin and floor drains

Holes in the floor or the slab beneath for drains, coordinated with our plumbing works.

■ Gas pipe

We core the hole for the gas sleeve only; running and connecting the gas line is work for a licensed gas technician.

Core hole sizes in Al-Ahsa by use

Core hole sizes in Al-Ahsa are chosen from whatever pipe or duct goes through them, with a small margin added for sealing. The table below is a rough guide to help you describe your job; the final word belongs to the AC technician, plumber or pool technician.

UseApproximate hole classPrice fromNote

Please note: treat these as opening estimates, firmed up once we have inspected and agreed, and they shift with how thick and how heavily reinforced the element is, which floor it is on, how easy it is to reach and how many holes there are.

Rebar scanning before coring in Al-Ahsa buildings

Rebar scanning before coring is a step we never skip, and in Al-Ahsa it matters even more: many rest-house and farm buildings were built without drawings that anyone kept, so nobody knows exactly where the bars are or where cables were run. We pass the scanner over the hole position and its surroundings, mark the bar pattern on the wall, then choose the centre that cuts the least steel possible.

  • ✓Main bars: we avoid them by shifting the hole a few centimetres wherever the route allows.
  • ✓Buried cables and pipes: we look for them before drilling and ask the owner about any run they know of.
  • ✓Beams and columns: a column is never cored, and a beam only on an engineer’s written decision.
  • ✓Post-tensioned slabs: no drilling until a radar scan has mapped the tensioned cables.

Core drilling prices in Al-Ahsa

Core drilling prices in Al-Ahsa begin at SAR 90 for an AC hole and anything of similar size, the same starting figures we use in Dammam, with the cost of travel and preparing the kit for the trip added when we price the job. We do not publish a fixed travel figure, because it is spread across the number and size of holes and the location of each site.

Eight inchSAR 230medium AC duct
Ten-to-twelve inch bandSAR 320large central duct, ventilation

To be clear: everything in this table is a starting estimate confirmed after inspection and agreement. Travel from Dammam is included in the quote, and each hole’s share of it falls as the visit list grows.

What pushes the price up in Al-Ahsa?

  • Wall or slab thickness: a tank wall or pool basin is thicker than a room wall.
  • Rebar density, and how hard it is to avoid in walls with two meshes.
  • Height and access, such as a duct hole near a high ceiling that needs a scaffold.
  • Having to empty a tank or lower a pool before drilling.
  • A single hole that carries the trip cost on its own.

How to keep the cost down

Gather every postponed hole on one list: the AC hole you are thinking about, the tank outlet you will need next summer, the drain the plumber plans to add. Book the work when the site is ready, which means before finishing in a house and after the water is lowered in a pool or tank. Our general price list is on the prices page.

One visit from Dammam to Al-Ahsa: how we prepare it

We are based in Dammam and Al-Ahsa is about 160 km away by road, so every Al-Ahsa request is handled as one planned trip. The aim is simple: to arrive once with every bit, every stand and every fitting we will need, so your list never stalls because one diameter was not in the van.

Before the tripOn the dayAfter drilling
We review a photo, diameter and thickness for every holeWe start with the sites that need water lowered or special powerWe clear the slurry and hand over every hole in place
We pick bits, stands and a generator if there is no powerWe scan for rebar and mark centres with you or your technicianWe close spare holes and agree the sealing
We send the estimate and confirm the dateWe drill and vacuum water as we goYou check the result before the team leaves

What to have ready before we arrive

  • Someone to open the house, rest house or farm who knows where the holes go.
  • Power nearby, or tell us in advance if the site has none.
  • A water source for cooling, or tell us and we will bring a small tank.
  • Pool or tank water lowered below the holes.
  • Furniture moved and plastic laid in occupied rooms, or leave that to us.
  • Your AC technician or plumber on hand when centres are marked, if possible.

Core drilling or concrete cutting in Al-Ahsa: when do you need the saw?

Core drilling and concrete cutting complement each other. A core is enough as long as the hole is round and within what the bit can carry; a rectangular hole for a wide duct, a new door between two rooms or a stair opening in a slab all need the diamond saw. We often use both tools on the same site: core holes at the corners, then straight cuts between them.

If your Al-Ahsa list combines core holes with cutting a wall or slab, tell us from the start so we bring both sets of equipment on the same trip. The cutting side is explained on concrete cutting in Al-Ahsa and on our concrete cutting service page. Where the coring belongs to a bigger refurbishment, our renovation contractor in Al-Ahsa page explains how we organise renovation work.

Core drilling contractor in Al-Ahsa: what to check first

A core drilling contractor in Al-Ahsa should be judged by their answers before their price. Ask anyone you deal with these questions; we answer them before we ask you to confirm a date:

  • ✓Do you scan for rebar before drilling? With what, and what happens if the marked centre sits right on a main bar?
  • ✓Do you drill on a stand-mounted rig? Large holes and reinforced walls are not drilled with a hand-held drill.
  • ✓How do you collect water and slurry? Especially next to a pool or inside an occupied house.
  • ✓Is sealing round the pipe part of the price? Or only the drilling? We put that in writing in the agreement message.
  • ✓How is travel priced? And does it fall if you add more holes to the visit?

Do not rely on phrases like “laser coring” or “thermal coring”. Real drilling in concrete is done with a diamond bit; a laser is only a tool for levelling and marking.

Al-Ahsa districts we reach for core drilling

Among the Hofuf and Mubarraz districts where we drill core holes:

Al-KutAl-NaathilAl-SalhiyahAl-RawdahAl-KhalidiyahAl-MuhammadiyahAl-FadhiliyahAl-RashidiyahAl-ShuabahAl-MazruiyahMahasin Aramco

For farms and rest houses outside the districts, we need the map pin and the nearest landmark the driver will recognise. The Al-Ahsa area page gathers everything else we do in the governorate. If you also have work in Abqaiq, see core drilling in Abqaiq, as the two jobs may fit on one trip.

FAQ

What is the price of core drilling in Al-Ahsa?

An AC-sized hole starts at SAR 90; the five-to-six inch band starts at SAR 140, eight inch at SAR 230, and the ten-to-twelve inch band at SAR 320. They are estimates until we inspect and agree, and the trip from Dammam is priced into the quote and shared across every hole on the visit.

Will you travel to Al-Ahsa for a single hole?

Yes, but a lone hole has to absorb the entire journey by itself. Put every hole you need in the house, rest house or farm on one list and the cost per hole drops as the list grows.

Do you cover both Hofuf and Mubarraz?

Yes. We treat Hofuf and Mubarraz as one work area on the same visit, and villages, farm plots and rest houses elsewhere in the governorate are fine too once you drop us a location pin.

Can you core a hole in an existing concrete water tank?

Yes. The tank is emptied or the water is lowered well below the hole, the wall is scanned, and we drill from outside. The new pipe is then fitted with a water-swelling sealing ring and the gap filled with non-shrink grout before the tank is refilled and checked.

Can you drill the pump-room wall of a rest-house pool?

Yes. We core the suction, return, cleaning and cable holes at the diameters and levels your pool technician sets, vacuuming the slurry as we go so it never reaches the pool water.

What size is a central-AC duct hole?

Your AC technician decides it from the duct size and airflow. Round ducts usually need holes in the 8 inch or 10–12 inch class; larger or rectangular ducts may need saw cutting instead.

What size is a split AC hole?

A well-known manufacturer's installation manual asks for a 65 mm opening that falls slightly towards the exterior. Follow your unit's manual or your technician, and we drill exactly that diameter and slope.

Does a core bit cut through rebar?

A diamond bit will cut steel if it meets it, but we scan first and shift the centre a little to miss main bars where possible. Any hole in a beam or a post-tensioned slab is the engineer's call.

Will coring crack an older house?

Diamond coring cuts by rotation, not hammering, so it is far gentler on a wall than breaking. We still check the wall first, and if there are existing cracks we suggest having them assessed as part of a renovation.

Which details help you price my Al-Ahsa holes?

A marked photo of each hole location, the diameter or pipe type, how thick the wall or slab is (if known), the floor, your location pin and the days that suit you. The more complete the list, the tighter the estimate.

Do you close spare holes after the pipes go in?

Yes. We fill around pipes or close unused holes with a suitable mortar or grout and fit a sealing collar where a pipe passes through the roof. Full waterproofing of a roof or tank is agreed as separate work when needed.

Is "laser core drilling" available in Al-Ahsa?

What adverts call laser coring is ordinary diamond-bit drilling; lasers are only used for levelling and marking out. We explain the actual method before work starts so you know what you are paying for.
